Planning to Build a Log or Timber-Frame Home?
Visit the Log & Timber Frame Design-Build Expo in Asheville
If you’ve been thinking about building a log, timber-frame, or conventional home in the mountains of Western North Carolina, the Log & Timber Frame Design-Build Expo is a great place to start.
The event brings together builders, manufacturers, and suppliers from across the Southeast — giving you a chance to see materials in person, learn about design and construction, and speak directly with professionals who understand the home-building process.
This year’s show will be held November 7–9, 2025, at the WNC Ag Center / Davis Event Center, just outside Asheville.
Friday: 1 PM – 7 PM
Saturday: 10 AM – 6 PM
Sunday: 10 AM – 4 PM
Tickets: $10 online / $12 at the door (Children under 18 free)
Parking: Free on-site
You can find full event details here.
I’ll be there all three days, located at the booth for Honest Abe Log Homes. Honest Abe has been designing and manufacturing log and timber-frame homes for more than 45 years, and their craftsmanship and attention to detail really show when you can see and touch the materials in person.
If you’re planning a build in 2026, 2027, or 2028, this is an excellent time to start gathering information and connecting with builders who can help bring your ideas to life.
About Sage Construction & Consulting
For me (Steve), Asheville and the surrounding mountain communities have always been home. My wife, Patricia, and I both grew up in the remote mountains of Madison County, North Carolina — and it’s where I’ve built my life, my family, and my business.
After starting my career as a middle-grade math and science teacher, I realized my true calling was in building — creating homes and guiding people through the process. Over the past thirty years, I’ve personally overseen the turnkey construction of more than 400 custom homes throughout Western North Carolina.
Early in my career, I established Custom Homes of Asheville and Log Homes of the Carolinas, where I built and designed one-of-a-kind homes for families throughout the region. Later, I served as the General Manager for three of the largest on-your-lot custom home builders in the Southeast — Schumacher Homes, America’s Home Place, and Brown Haven Homes — these roles allowed me to gain expertise in the best-practices for efficient home construction that improve some of the highest pressure points for homeowners: budget, timeline, and the selections process.
In 2022, I founded Sage Construction & Consulting to bring those experiences together. I believe people deserve the best of both worlds — a trusted local builder who provides a personal, transparent approach, while maintaining cost-conscious and energy-efficient practices that keep your project within budget.
I work closely with only a few clients at a time so that I can stay personally involved in every stage of the process — from evaluating land and refining plans to managing construction on site. Every family and every home is unique, and it’s a privilege to help bring those homes to life.
Whether you’re looking for a few hours of consultation, a site evaluation, or a full custom home build, my goal is simple: to share experience, insight, and what I like to call a little “sage advice.”
Why Attend the Expo
Whether you’re still in the early planning phase or already have property, the expo is a hands-on way to:
Learn more about design, budgeting, and construction
See log and timber-frame materials in person
Talk with builders and design professionals who understand mountain construction
Begin forming a clearer picture of your future home
If you’re thinking about building in 2026, 2027, or 2028, now is a great time to start those early conversations. The planning phase — from finding property to developing designs and budgets — often takes longer than expected, and having the right guidance early on makes a big difference.
Let’s Connect
If you’ll be at the Asheville Log & Timber Frame Expo, stop by the Honest Abe Log Homes booth — I’d love to meet you, talk through your ideas, and answer questions about the building process.
If you can’t attend but are starting to plan your build, I’d be happy to set up a video call or meet in person to discuss your goals. Early planning can make all the difference in creating a home that fits your needs, timeline, and budget.
Building in the mountains can be complex — but with the right information and a trusted guide, it can also be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
